(UW ATHLETICS) MADISON – The Wisconsin women’s basketball team (6–1, 0–0 B1G) claimed its best start since 2018-29 with a 81–63 win over Detroit Mercy (1–3, 0–0 Horizon) on Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center.
Lily Krahn led the team with 18 points on a near-perfect 6-for-7 performance from three-point range, while Kyrah Daniels added 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal to help the Badgers secure their fourth-straight victory.
Ronnie Porter filled the stat sheet once again, tying her season high in both points (11) and assist (6). Porter also added three steals and set a new season best in rebounds with six.
How it happened:
Wisconsin opened with early defensive pressure, forcing five Detroit Mercy turnovers in the first quarter and turning them into nine points. Destiny Howell set the tone, scoring five of her 10 points in the opening frame, while Gift Uchenna dominated inside with seven first-quarter rebounds and a block.
The Badgers continued to control tempo in the second quarter. Krahn and Porter powered a 7–0 run early in the frame, and Wisconsin’s defensive rebounding limited the Titans to one-shot possessions. Wisconsin took a 32–25 lead into halftime.
Wisconsin came out of the locker room hot, outscoring Detroit Mercy 22–17 in the third behind strong shooting—7-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-8 from three. Ware delivered two key buckets in the quarter, while Daniels found her rhythm with seven points. Krahn continued her stellar shooting, hitting her fourth three of the night.
Wisconsin then sealed the win with its best offensive quarter of the game, scoring 27 points and shooting 67 percent from the field. Krahn knocked down two more threes to help Wisconsin secure the win.
The Badgers shot 47.7 percent from the field (31–65), 44.4 percent from three (12–27), and 58.3 percent at the line (7–12). Wisconsin held Detroit Mercy to 39.6 percent shooting and just 4-for-21 from three. On the glass, Wisconsin finished with a 42–26 advantage.
