WEYAUWEGA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A campground in Waupaca County was damaged by fire Monday night.
Shortly after 10 p.m., authorities received a report of a fire at Guth’s Landing and Resort, located on Guth Road in the township of Mukwa. The person who called 911 said they could see smoke and flames coming from the campground’s bar building.
Nearly 10 agencies responded to the scene.
According to a news release from the New London Fire Department, fire burned through the roof of the campground’s bathroom/shower area and there was some fire extension in an attached game room. The bar area attached to the game room also sustained considerable smoke damage.
Officials say the mounted wild animals and fish on display in the bar survived the fire, as they were in a glass case.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“The owner of the property reported lighting a hot water heater and turning up the thermostat on a furnace in the building housing the bathroom/shower area about 30 minutes before the fire was discovered. He was preparing for the upcoming camping season,” the news release states.
Damage estimates are not available at this time.
