(WNFL) – The Wisconsin Badgers advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA tournament with an 85-66 win over the Montana Grizzlies in Denver Thursday afternoon.
John Blackwell scored 19 points to lead the Badgers who will play either Brigham Young or Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday.
Steven Crowl added 18 points for Wisconsin while John Tonje, Xavier Amos and Nolan Winter added 15, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Kai Johnson and Te’Jon Sawyer both scored 15 to lead Montana.
Wisconsin led 40-32 at halftime.
After Montana closed to within 4 points at 51-47, Wisconsin went on an 8-0 run that they would eventually extend to 21 points.
Wisconsin made 31-of-56 field goals including 7-of-23 3-point baskets. The Badgers made 16-of-20 free throws.
Montana was 25-of-63 from the floor.
- Wisconsin’s 85 points are its 3rd-most an NCAA Tournament game and the most since an 85-62 win over North Carolina in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
- The Badgers shot 55.6% from the field (31-56), their 2nd-highest mark ever in an NCAA Tournament game, trailing only a 55.6% (25-45) effort vs. Arizona in the 2015 Elite Eight.
- Wisconsin had 5 players score in double figures for the 5th time this season and first time since doing so at Purdue on Feb. 15, 2025. The Badgers are 5-0 this season when doing so.
