(WIAC) MADISON, Wis.–The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its 2025 All-WIAC Men’s Basketball Team that was selected by the league coaches.
University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Logan Pearson was tabbed the Kwik Trip Player of the Year, while UW-Oshkosh’s Joey LaChapell received Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year honors. UW-Platteville’s Jeff Gard collected Kwik Trip Coach of the Year accolades.
Pearson claimed Player of the Year honors for the second straight season and earned first team status for the third consecutive year. He is the eighth individual in WIAC history to secure the award multiple times. Pearson leads the conference with 19.5 points per game, while ranking second with an .855 free-throw percentage, fifth with 75 assists, tied for sixth with 33 steals, tied for eighth with 40 three-point field goals made, and ninth with a .499 field goal percentage. He became the program’s all-time leading scorer (currently 2,064 points) on Jan. 15 against UW-Eau Claire, and has reached double figures in scoring in 26-of-27 contests, including a season-high 35 points against Calvin University (Mich.) on Nov. 8, 2024.
Repeat selections on the first team from a year ago include: UW-Eau Claire’s Carter Huschka, UW-La Crosse’s JJ Paider, UW-Platteville’s Max Love, and UW-River Falls’ Zac Johnson.
LaChapell is the third Titan to receive the newcomer trophy, joining Levi Borchert (2020) and Michael Metcalf-Grassman (2024). He leads the WIAC with a .955 free-throw percentage and has made 48 consecutive free throws in conference contests. LaChapell also tops the WIAC with a .421 three-point field goal percentage. A newcomer is defined as a student-athlete who used his first season of participation in men’s basketball this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in men’s basketball at their previous institution.
Gard received the coaching award for the second straight year and fourth time in his career (2018, 2020, 2024). He has directed the Pioneers to the WIAC regular season and tournament titles. UW-Platteville owns a 25-2 record, including a 13-1 mark in conference contests. The 13 WIAC wins are the most since the 2008-09 squad had 13. UW-Platteville has secured an NCAA tournament bid for the 16th time in program history – and third in the last four years.
Huschka and UW-Platteville’s Brady Olson were repeat selections on the five-member All-Defensive Team.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was announced for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each team as selected by that team.
