GREEN BAY (WLUK) — 30 years. That’s about how long Packers fans whose names are on the list for season tickets will have to wait before being offered the opportunity to buy seats inside Lambeau Field.
The organization boasts a 99% season ticket holder renewal rate.
According to Director of Public Affairs Aaron Popkey, “The intent of having season tickets is to use them. And we know season ticket holders use them — family, friends, neighbors, the regular arrangements that they have to go to games.”
But as the ability to track data has gotten better, the Packers have found some season ticket holders are never using their tickets for themselves, friends or family — instead, they’re all being sold.
While the organization says those who sell all of their tickets — all of the time, for multiple years — make up less than 1% of its 40,000 account holders — they’re still cracking down on those sellers. Instead of receiving invoices, those account holders are receiving a different kind of notice.
“When we see there are some being sold for 100% of the time for multiple years, what we want to do is not renew those because that’s not what the intention is,” Popkey said.
The organization is continuing its non-renewal exercise, which has taken place in recent years to ensure Packers season tickets are being used as intended. By choosing not to renew those account holders, the Packers say more season ticket holder hopefuls can come off of the waitlist — which currently sits at about 150,000 names.
The measure will also help to ensure Packers fans who want to be at Lambeau Field are in the stands for games, rather than fans from opposing teams.
“Let’s keep that number minimal and let’s have as many Packers fans in the stands as possible,” Popkey said. “We feel it is certainly helping out our client base — season ticket holders — and getting more season ticket holders to be able to come to Lambeau Field.”
The crackdown is being met with mixed reactions.
“If you’re a season ticket holder, that means you’re a Packers fan. And if you’re a season ticket holder that’s selling those, you’re not a Packers fan. You’re just there to make money,” said Jennifer Kueter.
“If you own that ticket, you should be able to sell it to whoever you want. That’s what the Brewers season ticket holders do, is sell them to the Cubs fans. It’s America. You can do what you want, right?
The Packers understand there are unique circumstances that may play into people selling all of their tickets and they say they will look at each situation on a case by case basis.
Additionally, the Green Bay Packers will increase ticket prices between $7 and $21 per game, depending on location, for the 2025 season.
Preseason ticket prices, which cost roughly half of regular-season prices, will increase between $3 and $11 per game. The Packers are mailing invoices to season ticket holders Friday.
