GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The cost to purchase corn to feed ducks and geese at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is one step closer to going up.
The Green Bay Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department approved a plan for the 535-acre sanctuary to generate another $90,000 in revenue.
One part of that plan includes raising the price of corn bags from $2 to $5. The price was last raised in 2023, when it doubled from $1 to $2 per bag.
Two additional items approved at Wednesday night’s meeting are the creation of an “Ottertoberfest” event and an annual cage sponsorship program.
The city proposed other options to raise revenue, including one the Friends of the Wildlife Sanctuary strongly opposed.
“They are 100% opposed to considering a parking fee or an admission fee out at the wildlife sanctuary, and they requested that we find alternative funding sources or revenue sources for this $90,000,” said Green Bay Parks Director Dan Ditscheit.
The plan will be considered by the full city council at its meeting Tuesday.
