HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Additional details about the redevelopment of the United Health Care campus in Howard have been released, with a public hearing scheduled for next month about the project.
Built in the early 1990’s the former United Healthcare building in Howard once housed more than a thousand employees. Back in 2020 as more of its employees starting working from home, the health insurance company decided to downsize, leaving the more than 300,000 square foot office building vacant.
T. Wall Enterprises, a developer out of the Madison area, bought the site for $4.5 million. It is proposing a variety of housing options, along with retail space and community areas. The entire project, done in phases, could result in $300 million in new construction. The first phase would include two apartment buildings with 102 units.
The village plans to create a Tax Incremental District to help fund infrastructure projects at the site, including sewers, sidewalks, incentives to the developer, and other items. A 35-page project plan for the TID was released within the last week, in anticipation of March 17 meetings.
A meeting of the Joint Review Board is set for 4:30 p.m. that day, with the Plan Commission reviewing it at 5:30 p.m. Both will be at the Village Hall, 2456 Glendale Avenue.
