METOMEN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Multiple pet dogs and cats died in a Fond du Lac County house fire and a resident was injured after having to jump from a second story window to escape.
Just before 3 a.m. Friday, crews received a call from a resident at W13502 CTH KK in the town of Metomen about a house on fire with occupants still asleep inside.
A few minutes later it was reported that the occupants were jumping from the second story to escape the flames.
When a Fond du Lac County deputy arrived on scene, they saw an explosion come from the home.
Due to the size and severity of the fire, several area fire departments responded.
The property owner was not home at the time of the fire.
The home is considered a total loss.
Approximately five dogs and six cats were not able to make it out and died.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The resident who was hurt from the jump was taken to the hospital and later flown to another hospital for more advanced care.
Two other residents suffered smoke inhalation. One was taken to the hospital to be treated.
