MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Manitowoc Public School District is encouraging residents to attend one of its information sessions on its April 1 referendum.
The district is asking voters for permission to borrow $25 million to address critical facilities maintenance, safety, security and building infrastructure needs.
The borrowing will not increase school taxes because district leaders will bring a plan to the Board of Education in March to identify savings in MPSD’s operational budget to offset the borrowing cost.
The district says it will explain its plan at its Community Information Sessions where Interim Supt. Lee Thennes and Buildings, Grounds and Custodial Manager Mike Schwarz will provide a presentation and answer questions.
About 30 community members attended the first session held Feb. 20 at Washington Middle School.
Future community sessions are set for:
- March 5 – 6 p.m. — Virtual Meeting – link will be shared closer to the date
- March 12 – 6 p.m. — In-Person, Lincoln HS Auditorium
- March 19 – 6 p.m. — In-Person, Wilson HS Auditorium
