ALLOUEZ, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Frigid temperatures are delaying the start of a I-72 bridge repair project.
Repairs to WIS 172 bridge girders over Riverside Drive in Allouez were supposed to start Monday but have been delayed until 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Back in December, an oversized vehicle struck two girders on the bridge over Riverside Drive. The collision bent one of the steel girders and caused cosmetic damage to the other.
Bridge maintenance crews will conduct heat-straightening operations on the bent girder Wednesday and Thursday and again the week of Feb. 24.
When the project begins, southbound Riverside Drive will close between the WIS 172 ramps starting 8 a.m., Wednesday through 5 p.m., Thursday and again from 6 a.m., Monday, Feb. 24 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27.
Drivers can take the detour, westbound 172 to Pilgrim Road to Ashland Avenue to Vanderperren Way to eastbound 172 and back to the original route.
