Jesse Dahl appears in court May 22, 2023. PC: Fox 11 Online
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Jesse Dahl will stand trial Aug. 18 in connection with a December 2022 homicide, a judge ruled Friday.
Dahl, 25, is charged with three counts, including being party to first-degree intentional homicide for the death of a 42-year-old man, who has only been identified by his initials, R.H. Another 41-year-old man was also shot but survived.
Defense attorney Michael Covey may file what’s known as a “Denny” motion, where the defense seeks permission to blame an alternate suspect in the case. That could be discussed at an April 25 motions hearing.
Investigators say the surviving victim said he and R.H. were walking in the alley behind the 1300 block of Smith Street around midnight Dec. 20, 2022, when they met Dahl and another man. The witness told police he thought R.H. and Dahl knew each other.
The meeting escalated into a confrontation — it’s unclear exactly why — and shots were fired. The witness said R.H. returned fire and hit Dahl. R.H. was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Dahl was dropped off at the hospital in an allegedly stolen vehicle. He was uncooperative, police said. The complaint does not include a statement from him.
When the surviving victim arrived at the hospital, he had a bag containing a gun, meth, cocaine and fentanyl. He said the bag belonged to R.H. The gun was matched to some shell casings found at the scene. Drug charges have been filed against the surviving victim, but he has not been charged with any crimes related to the shooting.
