GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — We are about ten weeks from the start of the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, but we’re only about six weeks away from the first road closure related to the draft.
That’s according to Ashwaubenon Village Manager Joel Gregozeski, who shared a tentative road closure schedule.
Road closures before, during, and after the NFL Draft are tentatively scheduled to last six weeks.
The first closure will be about March 28 to start building the massive draft stage on Oneida Street. It is expected to last through May 10.
“It’s planned for us to start seeing impact around the weekend of March 28,” said Gregozeski. “That’s when that initial closure is going to happen on Oneida Street. Then there will be sequenced closures on the other roads that are impacted by the draft campus up until that April 22, 23 date.”
Gregozeski says the initial Oneida Street closure will span the block of Lambeau Field from Lombardi Avenue to the stadium parking lot’s southeast corner.
“After a few weeks of that initial buildout of the stage, you’ll start to see sequencing on Lombardi,” said Gregozeski. “So, there will be eastbound traffic restrictions on Lombardi Ave starting as early as mid-April. That will also affect South Ridge by the Titletown District, between Titletown and Lambeau.”
Gregozeski says the closure of the eastbound lanes of Lombardi Ave and S. Ridge Road from Lombardi Ave to Lodge Kohler will start the week of April 13 and last through May 2.
The westbound lanes of Lombardi Ave will shutdown the week of April 19 through April 30.
“That’s going to be pretty impactful, especially for businesses that rely on Lombardi Ave. for not only their employees, but maybe their contractors, vendors, deliveries, things of that nature,” noted Gregozeski.
The following road closures are tentatively scheduled to last from about April 22 through April 28:
- Holmgren Way (Lombardi Ave to Mike McCarthy Way)
- Mike McCarthy Way (S. Oneida St to Holmgren Way)
- Brett Favre Pass/Tony Canadeo Run (Holmgren Way to Badger State Brewing)
The draft starts on April 24 and concludes on April 26.
“Anything we do to not mix pedestrians and vehicles will be amazing for us,” said Green Bay Police Captain Ben Allen, who is leading public safety planning for the event. “But I think just those road closure plans are a big piece of that.”
Organizers warn these closures could change. More information is still coming, including detour routes.
“We ask for people to continue to be patient as the plan continues to get finalized,” said Aaron Popkey, director of public affairs for the Packers. “Early to mid-March as that finalization occurs, we’ll be in a position to communicate that, see what questions people have and make sure they get comfortable with what the routine will be for that period of time.”
Sam Krassenstein oversaw the road closures for last year’s NFL Draft in Detroit, which were similar in length.
“I would say be patient and be part of the excitement,” said Krassenstein upon being asked what advice he’d give people in Green Bay. “The whole fan experience it’s not just for the NFL, it’s not just for the picks being made, it’s about being in that fun atmosphere and being part of the experience and having the chance to really show off your city on the national and international stage.”
