FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Fond du Lac School District has announced Matthew Steinbarth as the district’s next Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2025.
Steinbarth has worked within the FDLSD system for more than 25 years, and is currently the district’s Chief Academic Officer.
Steinbarth will be taking over for current Superintendent Jeff Fleig, who is retiring at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
According to a statement from the FDLSD, the decision to select Steinbarth was unanimous.
Mr. Steinbarth has a tremendous understanding of the district’s strengths and challenges to change outcomes for students. His character, conviction, and passion for success make him the choice to lead us into the future.
Before his role as Chief Academic Advisor, Steinbach has served within the FDLSD system as the district’s Chief of Schools, Fond du Lac High School principal, Lakeshore Elementary principal, Woodworth Middle School assistant principal, and an eighth-grade math teacher at Woodworth Middle School.
In a statement, Steinbarth expressed his enthusiasm to continue working with the FDLSD: “I am truly honored and excited to have the opportunity to serve as the next Superintendent of Schools for the Fond du Lac School District.”

The Fond du Lac School District serves more than 6,400 students in 14 schools across 75 square miles of Fond du Lac County.
