KIMBERLY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An hourslong standoff in Kimberly has been resolved.
Fox Valley Metro police say one person is in custody. It’s unclear whether that person is the same person who was loaded into an ambulance after police went into a house on Kimberly Avenue.
Around 4 p.m., the ambulance left the scene with its emergency lights and siren activated. Tactical vehicles were then seen leaving the area.
Fox Valley Metro police said they were in a tactical situation with a barricaded person. Officers believed that person was armed.
Kimberly Avenue was blocked at Walnut Street on the west, with the closure continuing for several blocks to the east.
The disturbance led three schools to go on what they call a “soft lockdown.”
District officials say the 4K Center, Mapleview Intermediate, and Parkview schools were affected. The lockdown began at 11 a.m. at the recommendation of Fox Valley Metro police.
People in homes and businesses in the area were asked to shelter in place.
