(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s basketball team dominated Georgetown on Saturday, 75-58, to move to 5-3 in BIG EAST play.
The Golden Eagles (13-6, 5-3 BIG EAST) were led by senior guard Lee Volker, who posted 20 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Halle Vice had 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Skylar Forbes added 18 points, five boards and four blocks.
Marquette stormed out to a 22-11 lead after the first quarter. The Hoyas scored just seven points the last seven minutes and 49 seconds in the first and were held to 20 percent shooting during that span.
The hot hands continued into the second quarter, shooting 53.3% in the second ten minutes, combining for 63% over the half. Forbes and Volker combined for 26 first half points and the Golden Eagles went into the locker room up with their second-largest halftime lead in conference play, 40-26.
Marquette opened the third quarter with three three-pointers in a row and went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in the third. The Golden Eagles shot a season-high 66.7 percent from the three-point line in the win.
Georgetown (10-10, 3-6 BIG EAST) was led by Kelsey Ransom, who had 25 points.
NOTABLES:
- Marquette has won the last 14 meetings against Georgetown, the third-longest winning streak against a BIG EAST opponent.
- Marquette shot over 50-percent from the floor for the seventh time this season.
- The Golden Eagles had 21 assists on 27 made baskets.
- Lee Volker (six) Kennedi Perkins (five) and Skylar Forbes (four) all had career-highs in assists.
