GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An electric vehicle charging port has been installed on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus, and another one is on the way.
The first ChargePoint EV station is already in place and ready for use at Curt Condon Hall. The second will be installed in The Weidner’s Lot A in the coming months.
Both ports were made possible by a charitable donation from an alumnus. UWGB students, faculty and staff, as well as community members, are invited to use the charging stations — with a small fee charged for usage, as is mandated by the state of Wisconsin.
“As more students are bringing EV and PHEV vehicles to campus, it is exciting to be able to give them the opportunity to charge right here on campus and contribute to the sustainability mission of the university,” said Adam Neveau, associate director of UWGB Housing and Residential Education.
Officials say with these new ports, there are now more than 35 EV chargers in the Green Bay area.
“By providing these advanced charging solutions to the local community, UW-Green Bay is actively promoting the adoption of electric vehicles, thereby reducing tailpipe emissions and fostering a cleaner environment,” a news release states.
The charging ports located on the UW-Green Bay campus are ChargePoint 6000 Series, with Level 2 AC Charging. Those interested in using the EV charging stations will find wait listing features, price information and customer support on the ChargePoint app.
