(LEARFIELD/UW ATHLETICS) – Two dozen Wisconsin players have left the football program through the transfer portal but at least one important player is staying.
The Athletic is reporting cornerback Ricardo Hallman will stay in Madison for his fifth and final college season.
Six seniors say they are coming back.
Hallman didn’t put up big numbers last season as a 12-game starter but that’s because other teams weren’t throwing his way.
Coach Luke Fickell’s staff has added 19 players through the portal.
New quarterback coach: Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell announced Kenny Guiton as Quarterbacks Coach on Wednesday morning. Guiton will lead the Badgers’ signal callers after one season as UW’s Wide Receivers Coach.
“After a thorough search of candidates, we realized that we had the best quarterbacks coach candidate right here on our staff in Coach Guiton,” Fickell said. “His familiarity with our program and knowledge of the quarterback position make him a great fit. I’m excited to watch him lead that room and pass along his passion and experience to that group.”
Guiton joined the Badgers’ staff last January and directed the UW wideouts in 2024. Under Guiton’s tutelage, five different Wisconsin wideouts caught multiple touchdowns for the first time in program history. Guiton also helped lead the UW QB room during the final stretch of the season.
“I’m excited to take over a new role leading our quarterback room,” said Guiton. “After playing the position at the college level, I’m fired up for the chance to coach the QB room and help our offense grow and compete at a high level. I’ve loved working with our receivers over the last year, and I can’t wait to work as an offensive unit to reach our potential as a team.”
Guiton helped junior receiver Vinny Anthony II to a breakout season in 2024 that included a team-high 672 yards and four touchdowns on 39 catches. Anthony grabbed six passes of 40+ yards, the second-most in the Big Ten.
New wide receivers coach: Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell announced the addition of Jordan Reid as Wide Receivers Coach. Reid will join the UW staff after leading the Western Michigan receiving corps from 2023-24.
“We’re excited to add another young and talented coach to our staff,” Fickell said. “Coach Reid will fit right in with our mentality of being humble and hungry and he’s definitely a guy who is always eager to learn and grow. He’s proven the ability to build strong relationships and will fit right into what we’re building as a program.”
Last season at Western Michigan, Reid helped three Bronco wideouts catch 30+ passes, led by Kenneth Womack who tallied a team-high 39 catches for 545 yards. Womack totaled 115 catches for 1,236 yards and two scores across two seasons under Reid’s guidance.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Coach Fickell’s staff at Wisconsin,” said Reid. “I’m honored to be a Badger, and I can’t wait to work with the high-character student-athletes and coaches that make Wisconsin special.”
In 2022, Reid’s WMU wide receiving corps made 167 of the team’s 247 receptions. Womack led the MAC with 76 catches and racked up 691 yards and a touchdown en route to a First Team All-MAC honors.
