APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The person involved in an hours-long standoff on Appleton’s northeast side Friday has died of a self-inflicted injury sustained during the incident.
Police were called to the 2400 block of N. Bay Street Friday afternoon to check on a person’s well-being. When officers arrived, the person showed a gun.
When officers eventually went into the home, they found the person and provided medical assistance. The person was taken to the hospital and later died there.
The person’s name was not released.
The Appleton Police Department has requested that Grand Chute police investigate the death, “due to the extended and complex nature of this incident.”
