APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Another suspect charged in the theft of $38,000 from a Kaukauna ATM pleaded not guilty Tuesday.
No trial date was set for Johammel Ortiz-Sanchez on two counts, including being party to theft of movable property. He returns to court Feb. 18 for a pre-trial conference.
Ortiz-Sanchez is one of six people charged for the July 5 incident. The status for the others is as follows:
Yeniaker Avila-Acevedo was convicted and served a three-month jail sentence.
Manuel Pina-Gonzalez has pre-trial conference Jan. 16.
Andres Escobar-Rodriguez has a pre-trial conference Jan. 9.
Adonay Dalis-Ramirez has a pre-trial conference Jan. 9.
Jesse Duque-Escobar has a trial scheduled for March 17.
Security video captured images of several people in two vehicles “repeatedly accessing the ATM and manipulating it, then removing a large amount of cash, approximately $38,000.00,” the complaint states. The thieves had staged in a nearby parking lot, then made 48 trips to the ATM. The credit union suspected the thieves had a master key, a small gold key with a rounded base and teeth on both sides. Police later pulled over two vehicles seen on the video, and arrested the six, the criminal complaint states.
All of the suspects had various forms of Venezuelan identification.
Although the criminal complaint says about $38,000 was stolen, a restitution request for $45,174.58 has been submitted, court records show.
