(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Green Bay men’s basketball team led at the break, but a 56-35 second half from UC Santa Barbara turned the game around.
The Phoenix spread the ball around, with three players finishing in double figures. Freshman Jeremiah Johnson led the way with a career-high 18 points to go with nine rebounds off the bench.
The Gauchos were led by 23 points from Deuce Turner in 25 minutes off the bench. Kenny Pohto finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a grind to start on Saturday, with the two teams combining to score 19 points in the first seven minutes. The Phoenix was finally able to create some separation after a made Johnson three pointer with 13:04 gave GB a 13-9 lead. Johnson continued to lead the way for GB, pouring in 14 of his 18 points in the first half as they went into halftime with 31-27.
UCSB started to chip away at the Green & White lead before taking that 43-42 advantage with 13:23 to go. That lead was never relinquished as UCSB cruised to the 83-66 victory.

Green Bay will continue their final stretch of nonconference play on Wednesday when they host Michigan Tech at the Resch Center. Wednesday’s game is the annual Education Day game, with tipoff slated for 11 a.m. Following, the Phoenix will travel to Drake on Saturday to take on the Bulldogs at 5 p.m.
