FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Charges have not yet been filed in the Fond du Lac County dog hoarding and neglect case, but officials confirmed Wednesday the matter is still being investigated.
On Nov. 6, a welfare complaint led to the removal of 70 dogs from a home in the town of Calumet in “deplorable condition.” Due to the “unsanitary and hazardous conditions” inside the residence, hazmat equipment was required to ensure the safe rescue of the animals.
The dogs were turned over to Eastshore Humane Association in Chilton to receive care and medical treatment. Injuries included broken teeth, limbs and tails; missing toes and dead tissue; and extreme matting of feces and urine in the dogs’ fur.
A few days after the dogs were taken in, the shelter manager said while most should be ready for adoption in the coming weeks and months, others may not survive.
In a news release Wednesday, Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said at this point, no charges have been referred in the case. However, he said the matter remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.

Media and public inquires have been made to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office regarding an investigation being conducted by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office from November of 2024, related to a large number of dogs seized from a residence in the Town of Calumet, located in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.
The Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office is in communication with the Sheriff’s Office. The matter remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office with no charges yet referred to the District Attorney’s Office. Any inquiries should be submitted to the investigating agency.
Any suspects of the investigation are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
The Eastshore Humane Association is still accepting donations from those interested in helping. Dog food, cleaning supplies — especially bleach and laundry detergent — blankets, bowls, dog collars for small dogs are needed.
