FOND DU LAC (WLUK) — Project Linus is a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing new handmade blankets for children going through any trauma.
On Thursday, Nov. 21, Project Linus (Dodge, Fond du Lac & Washington Counties, Wisconsin chapter) will transform Covenant United Methodist Church into a fleece no-sew workshop.
Make a Difference Day will take place between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Covenant United Methodist Church is located at 20 N Marr Street in Fond du Lac.
The non-profit will be creating and collecting new handmade blankets for children in need. This could be anywhere from an illness themselves to a death in the family, fires, police and social service visits etc. The blankets will be serviced to not only children in our area, but also for those touched by the hurricanes this fall.
Project Linus is in need of “blanketeers” to make and fill the blankets with love. Guests are asked to bring either a donation to help offset the material cost or bring two 1.5 yard pieces of their favorite anti pill-fleece.
This can be purchased in most craft stores. The non-profit is always in need of blanket materials (especially anti-pill fleece) scissors, needles, safety pins, yarn, envelopes, colored and white card stock, JoAnn Fabrics, and Menards and Walmart gift cards.
The non-profit serves newborns to age 18, but currently, their biggest need is for teen boys. Any 1.5 to 2 yard blankets that have boy patterns are extremely in need. Project Linus accepts blankets of any size, knit, crochet, quilted, no sew or whatever you prefer to make – except wool. Blankets donated must be new, handmade, washable and child friendly.
