OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Construction of the new health campus of ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh reached a milestone Wednesday.
Froedtert ThedaCare Health held a “topping out” ceremony to mark the completion of the structural steel portion of the building, allowing for the next phase of construction to begin.
Officials broke ground on the project in March. Located downtown at 250 W. 6th Avenue, along the Fox River, the facility’s location was chosen purposefully.
Nearly 73% of Oshkosh’s residents live east of Interstate 41, while most of the current health care services are located west of I-41 — meaning east-side residents are more than 15 minutes away from a hospital or emergency room.
“We strategically placed this campus where most of the residents live,” said Robert Cavagnol, president of Froedtert ThedaCare Health’s North Region. “That’s why we intentionally placed the campus here, so that it can be close and convenient — especially for those folks that need emergency care.”
The hospital is projected to be 114,000 square feet, with an estimated $84 million investment. Approximately 60 new jobs for caregivers and staff will be created.
Comprehensive community care, including emergency and inpatient services, will be available at the new campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Plans also call for:
24/7 computed tomography scans
X-ray and ultrasound
Mammogram, MRI and lab services
Retail pharmacy
Ambulatory surgery center with operating rooms
Medical office building for primary care and specialties
“We know that the residents of Oshkosh want to be seen by Froedtert ThedaCare Health providers and so we’re just really excited to be able to bring that to this community,” Cavagnol said.
What that’s going to do is just allow people to stay closer to home. That’s really a promise that we have: to deliver care close to home. That’s what this campus is going to mean for the Oshkosh community.
Froedtert ThedaCare Health recently announced plans to add a 28,000-square-foot third floor to the original design of the campus. That plan was approved by the Oshkosh Plan Commission in August.
The Oshkosh campus is expected to be complete in 2025. Work also continues at Froedtert ThedaCare Health’s Fond du Lac Health campus, which should also be finished in 2025.
