FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Fond du Lac school board is standing behind superintendent Jeffrey Fleig after staff and community members accused him of bullying.
School board president Todd Schreiter released a statement Thursday. It read, in part:
Through discussions, and through collaboration, the Board has entrusted Dr. Fleig to lead the implementation of this plan, with a primary focus on improving student outcomes. While we understand that change can be challenging and may be met with some resistance, this thoughtful, deliberate progress will continue to strengthen our schools and support the success of every student.
We value the ongoing dialogue with our community and encourage continued collaboration as we move forward together. As a Board, we will continue to support Dr. Fleig fully as he leads the district in the direction we have set for him.
In a standing-room-only school board meeting Monday, speakers claimed Fleig has been mistreating staff and belittling them in front of co-workers. They said that at an Oct. 15 meeting at Woodworth Middle School, Fleig spoke down to teachers and threatened their jobs.
In a radio interview last month, Fleig said, “That school failed to meet expectations a year ago on the school report card. We have really pumped a lot resources into it and we’re just not seeing what we’d like to. And I thought it was well within my purview, as superintendent, to make that very clear that things need to improve, quickly.”
