(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) MONTGOMERY, Ill. – St. Norbert College thumped Aurora University in a dominant 3-0 road win to secure the Green Knights a berth in the NACC Conference Tournament.
The Green Knights (6-8-2, 5-4-2 NACC) scored two early goals and added an insurance goal near the end of the second half to run away with the win.
After several early chances from both sides, Emilie Harwood put St. Norbert up at 11:57 from a connection from Abby Thompson. Thompson would get on the scoresheet herself less than 10 minutes later, scoring her fourth goal of the season off assists from Haley Leadingham and Aleah Reesman.
St. Norbert had 16 shots in the first half, forcing Spartans goalkeeper Melina Cane to make seven saves.
The Green Knights would have 14 more on goal in the second half, and would put the game away at 84:19 when Leadingham scored her fifth of the season and put St. Norbert up by three.
Taylor Wilson kept a second straight clean sheet, making three saves.
St. Norbert outshot Aurora, 30-10. The Spartans held a slight edge in corner kicks, 5-4.
The result means that St. Norbert will be traveling on the road for the first round of the NACC Tournament, securing the five seed with the win. St. Norbert’s opponent will be determined after the final matchday on Wednesday.
