TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A bomb threat that forced evacuations at Two Rivers High School late Tuesday afternoon was deemed not credible and likely originated from overseas scammers.
According to a news release from the Two Rivers Police Department, the threat was made by phone call at approximately 3:20 p.m. Because the threat occurred at the end of the school day, many students and staff members had already left or were leaving the building.
Everyone who was in the school at the time of the threat was evacuated and the grounds were cleared by TRPD, with assistance from the Mishicot Police Department and the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office. The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office and Green Bay Police Department’s bomb detection K9 units also aided in the search for explosive devices. None were found.
Investigators said they have determined the threat was not credible. It is believed the call was made by “overseas scammers utilizing compromised telephone subscriber account information.”
There is no threat to the public at this time, according to police.
The Two Rivers Police Department takes threats to our schools seriously. If you or someone you know hear of a threat or witness suspicious activity, please report the information to the police and/or school officials immediately.
Tuesday night’s WIAA Regional volleyball match at Oshkosh North was postponed until 7 p.m. Wednesday. The community weight room at the high school was also closed Tuesday night.
