GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz stopped in Green Bay Monday as part of his campaign swing across Wisconsin.
The Minnesota governor’s first trip to Northeast Wisconsin came after an appearance in Eau Claire earlier Monday.
Walz took part in a “political event” in Green Bay prior to hosting a campaign rally at the KI Convention Center. He was introduced by fellow governors Tony Evers of Wisconsin and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, kicking off a campaign bus tour.
“[Vice President Kamala Harris] spent the last four years defending our democracy, fighting for the freedoms we hold dear, and working tirelessly to do the right thing,” said Evers. “She has been a champion for lowering costs, including capping insulin at $35 a month.”
Walz spoke on Harris’ economic policy platforms.
“Kamala Harris has laid out a plan to build an opportunity economy,” said Walz. “One that lowers everyday costs, lifts everyone up and leaves nobody behind. We’re talking about a child tax credit to help new parents, that’s $6,000 in the first year of that child’s life.”
He also had lots to say about Donald Trump.
“He suggested that he is going to send the military against ‘the enemy from within,'” said Walz. “In other words, Americans who don’t support him. You know who he’s talking about? He’s talking about you.”
Walz also spoke about Harris’ plans to restore and protect reproductive freedoms.
“The republican party has added much to the benefit of this county, but that’s not who Donald Trump and the MAGA folks are,” said Walz. “When Vice President Harris and I talk about freedom, we mean that you should be free to make the decisions about your healthcare and your family, not politicians.”
This marks Walz’s fifth visit to Wisconsin since he was named Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’ running mate.
The election between Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump is three weeks from Tuesday. The latest Marquette University Law School poll released earlier this month showed Harris with a four-percentage-point lead over Trump in Wisconsin, just inside the poll’s margin of error.
