GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Three dozen trees were planted in a Green Bay park Wednesday.
It’s part of West Bend Insurance Company’s Arbor Day Foundation project.
“We’ve been giving back for Arbor Day, this will be our third year in a row, we did Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Milwaukee last year and now today Green Bay and it’s special to me because I grew up here in Green Bay so it’s nice to come back to my community where I’m from and I find near and dear to my heart,” said president and CEO of West Bend Insurance Company, Rob Jacques.
Forty volunteers rolled up their sleeves at Murphy Park to put down the roots of six varieties of trees.
“Murphy Park was selected for this planting project because of the combination of loss of trees due to emerald ash borer over the years and because of a lot of the wind storms we’ve had over the last couple of years,” explained Green Bay forester, Brian Pelot.
Arbor Day is annually held in April but the city decided to use this event as its Arbor Day celebration.
