NE WISCONSIN (WTAQ-WLUK) โ With a little more than a month to go until the November general election, both political parties are continuing to keep pressure on the campaign trail.
Even without presidential candidates in attendance, Democratic and Republican backers and party leaders arenโt slowing down as they work to gain more support in battleground Wisconsin.
Dueling political visits were held Tuesday in Northeast Wisconsin.
A bus tour stumping for former President Donald Trump made two stops in our area โ one in Green Bay and one in Appleton.
Trump supporters highlighted numerous topics, from securing the border to making prices more affordable for things such as housing.
โYou got guys coming up with criminal histories and you donโt know much about these individuals,โ said Republican Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas. โYou got to keep them locked up at the border โtil we can find out a little bit more about these guys, because we just donโt know.โ
โMy generation, I am the oldest of millennials. We have lost the opportunity at home ownership. It doesnโt exist anymore,โ said Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann.
Meanwhile, supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris were in Appleton focusing on access and affordability of childcare.
โ50% of our state we know right now is facing a childcare desert. Because what is one of the most important issues this election? Itโs childcare. Childcare is essential to Wisconsinโs working families,โ said Wisconsin Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski.
The latest Marquette Law School poll released earlier this month has Harris with a slight lead over Trump among likely voters in Wisconsin โ with 47% support for Harris to Trumpโs 43%. That poll was conducted before the candidates squared off on the debate stage.
Both candidates have made their presence felt in the state.
Trump has been in Wisconsin for five rallies this year, including a trip to Green Bay in April. Harris has made four trips to Wisconsin since launching her presidential campaign, but so far, none of those have been to Northeast Wisconsin.
