(WNFL) – The annual running of the Fox Cities Marathon has been cancelled due to weather.
The FC Marathon organizers posted the following message on their facebook page at about 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
Due to the forecast of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain predicted for the first several hours of the course, we are heartbroken to announce that for the safety of all runners, volunteers, public service employees and spectators, the marathon, half marathon and relay marathons scheduled for Sunday, September 22nd have been cancelled.
Unfortunately, the window for the predicted weather does not allow us to wait out the storms and delay.
We are as disappointed as you are and appreciate your understanding and support as we made this difficult decision in consultation with national weather service sites and WBAY meteorologists to make the best decisions for the safety of participants.
Additional information will be shared with participants via email.
