OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – One of the suspects from a shooting and subsequent chase with a rental van was ordered Thursday to stand trial.
Omah Brown, 45, waived a preliminary hearing on seven counts, including armed robbery, fleeing an officer and attempted theft. His arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 25, court records show.
Also charged in the case is Shakierra Ray, 27, who faces three charges, including armed robbery. A jury trial is scheduled for Dec. 9, with a possible plea hearing on Nov. 25.
Police arrested Brown and Ray after an Omro man was shot after he met with the two on July 15 to sell them a vehicle he listed online. They were caught after a chase which ended in Fond du Lac.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim met with Brown and Ray about the sale of a car posted on a website. The victim was suspicious of the check. The two began to wrestle, Brown pulled out a gun, and during the tussle, the victim was shot in the hand.
Brown and Ray left the Omro home in a rented UHaul. Police spotted it, and a chase ensued, with speeds topping 100 mph. Stop spikes were deployed. Eventually, a squad collided with the UHaul, ending the chase.
Ray’s mother, Ruby Williams, told police she had told the FBI “that she received a call from her daughter Shakierra Ray about creating fake cashiers checks and using them to purchase cars, houses, and motorcycles.”
“Williams stated that Ray told her that she had printed a check for $45,000 and multiple other checks for various amounts. Williams stated that Ray told her that she had signed one of the fake checks for a Spyder motorcycle and a Green Bay police officer had contact with her about it. Williams stated that Ray told her they were doing this throughout Wisconsin. Williams stated that Brown was the brains behind the operation and there were multiple people involved,” the complaint states.
