APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) โ A historic downtown Appleton building will transform into a hub that strengthens family ties.
Once the Trout Museum of Art moves into its new building next year on the Lawrence University campus, the five-story building at 111 W. College Avenue will become the Together for Families: Fox Valley Family Resource Center.
Nonprofit First 5 Fox Valley says the building within Houdini Plaza is centrally located for families across the Fox Valley.
During a news conference Thursday, First 5 Fox Valley Executive Director, Barb Tengesdal, shared the vision for the building.
It will include space for parenting classes, play groups, family resources, a free year-round play area, early education programming, a baby thrift store and childcare services.
โThis is for you to connect with other parents, you to connect with other grandparents and aunties and other people, for your children to make those connections. Itโs going to be imaginative, amazingly creative, weโre working with the Building for Kids to help curate a very creative, imaginative space to play and hang out,โ Tengesdal said.
The Trout Museum of Artโs new space is expected to be complete in the fall of 2025, then work can begin inside the building for the new Fox Valley Family Resource Center.
Tengesdal says updates will be made while keeping the historic integrity of the building.
Work on the new Fox Valley Family Resource Center is expected to continue through the summer of 2026.
