GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Polls will be open across Wisconsin on Tuesday in the state’s partisan primary election — where crowded partisan races will officially be narrowed down.
That includes the state’s 8th congressional district race, where three Republican candidates have been battling it out over the airwaves and on the campaign trail.
They’re vying to face Democrat Dr. Kristin Lyerly in the November general election.
“Ultimately, using my business experience to truly reign in the reckless government spending that we have in Washington,” said Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District, Tony Wied. “So my experience stands, and I have that experience of almost 30 years of balancing a budget, signing the fronts of paychecks, rather than the backs of paychecks like career politicians.”
“People want experience and they want leadership out there,” said Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District, Roger Roth. “I’m the one candidate with small business experience, military experience and legislative experience.”
“Elections are determined by the people that show up. And you know, right now my opponents are busy beating themselves bloody on the airwaves, I’ve been trying to put forward a positive message of the things that I’ve worked on for the people of Northeast Wisconsin,” said Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District, Andre Jacque. “That’s what I’m going to continue to carry forward.”
Each candidate understands just how high the stakes are.
In a statement, 8th Congressional District Candidate Democrat Dr. Kristin Lyerly said in part:
I am very much looking forward to learning who my opponent will be. Additionally, and most importantly, it is critical for voters to get out and choose “no” on the two referendum questions, rejecting the constitutional amendments.
Those two statewide referendum questions will determine if the state legislature should have more oversight on how federal government money is spent in Wisconsin.
Another statewide focus is republican primary race for U.S. Senate, with Eric Hovde facing Rejani Raveendran and Charles Barman on the ballot.
The winner will face Incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin.
Brown County GOP Chair Doug Reich urges voters to research all the candidates who will be on their respective ballots.
“This is a really important chance to familiarize yourself with who’s the legislative candidates, who’s going to be representing you in Madison, and who’s going to be representing you potentially in Washington, D.C.,” said Reich.
