KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) โ Two residents are displaced after a basement fire Friday damaged their Kaukauna home.
Shortly after 11:20 a.m., the Kaukauna Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 905 Wilson Street. Crews arrived on scene in under three minutes and found a single-family home with smoke and flames. The basement was filled with smoke and โsmoldering general materials.โ
The cause of the fire is still under investigation; however, officials say the fire โmelted a plastic plumbing line which allowed water to discharge and extinguish the fire and contain it to the area of origin.โ
No injuries were reported, but two residents were displaced. Although they were not home when the fire broke out, they arrived home to discover the fire.
Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $25,000.
The Kaukauna Fire Department said this is a good reminder about the importance of working smoke detectors.
โSmoke detectors should be tested monthly, and batteries should be replaced at least once a year. This house had working smoke detectors on all floors which helped alert the family there was a fire when they returned home,โ a news release said.
