APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A fire caused about $50,000 worth of damage at an Appleton apartment building.
Crews were called around 3:30 a.m. Friday to the 3200 block of East Parkside Boulevard for a report of a structure fire.
When firefighters arrived, light smoke was showing from a first-floor apartment, fire alarms were going off and residents were self-evacuating.
The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes.
Firefighters are working to determine a cause, but charging lithium-ion batteries were present in the area of origin and contributed to fire spread.
The Appleton Fire Department stresses that renters should invest in Renter’s Insurance, a cost-effective way to get re-established, should a fire occur.
