KIMBERLY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Events planned for this weekend are having to adjust course with rain and potential storms being forecasted.
Art in the Park in De Pere is no exception.
“We did have to change our date to be our rain date of Sunday,” said Interim President and CEO at the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce David Vander Bloomen. He says they already had a weather contingency in place after rain affected last year’s event.
“The fact that it took eight years to get to a rain day in our event was pretty impressive,” he added. “That was, our committee decided last year, we’ve got to have something different just in case, and boy am I glad we did.”
Art in the Park isn’t the only event affected by the incoming weather this weekend. At Sunset Park in Kimberly, officials are looking for a break in the rain to tarp the fields to allow for play in this weekend’s Sunset Classic Tournament.
Village of Kimberly Community Enrichment Director Holly Femal gave FOX 11 a look inside their plans for the field.
“As of today and as of right now, many of our fields are absolutely saturated.”
Femal says the crews will do everything they can to get the fields ready for Friday play.
“Truly what we need right now is for the clouds to open up and some sunshine to happen. Our field crew is phenomenal, they could pull off some of the most difficult fields. We are absolutely saturated at this point though.”
Femal said tournaments like the Sunset Classic are important to keeping the parks open.
“The loss of a tournament, or loss of gameplay because of a tournament, is impactful both to that organization but as well to the village as a recipient of support from a tournament like that.”
Additionally, the City of Menasha announced Thursday evening it is postponing its sesquicentennial celebration due to the inclement weather. Officials say the show will go on as planned, just at a later date.
Titletown in Ashwaubenon previously canceled its Kids Sports Club and Family Fitness events on Thursday morning due to the weather.
