APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce is leaving a piece of history within its walls.
On Tuesday, the Chamber held a ceremony to place a time capsule in the building’s wall. It’s all part of the Chamber’s 150-year anniversary celebration.
“Think about that — the state is only 175 years old,” said Becky Bartoszek, president and CEO of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce.
“150 years ago, our community leaders, our business leaders, came together to start this Chamber. Today, we put a time capsule of everything that’s going on in our community and our world, built into one of our walls, to basically encapsulate a piece of history for our future,” Bartoszek said.
She added that the Chamber purposely didn’t set a date for when the time capsule will be unearthed.
“We really wanted to leave it open to our future generations to decide when they want to open the wall. It could be when we experience a tremendous amount of growth and want to expand the building. It could be when we move to a different location and somebody else comes in,” Bartoszek explained. “We just wanted to keep it flexible. We’ll let the future and curiosity guide the path on when that is opened.”
