GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay teen has reached a plea deal in two separate drug cases, one of which involved a fatal overdose.
Maylia Sotelo, 17, appeared in court Friday. In the first case, she pleaded no contest to a charge of first-degree reckless homicide. That charge stemmed from the 2022 death of an 18-year-old man at a De Pere home.
In Wisconsin, those ages 10 and older charged with certain homicide counts are prosecuted in adult court. The defense can ask for the case to be moved to juvenile court — known as a “reverse waiver” — but such requests are not automatically granted. Brown County Judge Beau Liegeois denied Sotelo’s request, keeping her in adult court.
In the second case, she pleaded no contest to manufacturing or delivering fentanyl and possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver. In exchange, charges of conspiracy to manufacture or deliver fentanyl and possession with intent to deliver THC — the active component in marijuana — were dropped, but the judge may consider them at sentencing.
Sotelo is scheduled to be sentenced July 9.
