DEPERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Sturgeon spawning is taking a brief intermission in Northeast Wisconsin.
As of Wednesday, sturgeon can be seen on the lower Fox and Peshtigo Rivers, though no spawning activity has been reported yet, the DNR says.
The warm weather forecast for the next week will likely cause sturgeon to spawn soon at the De Pere Dam and resume again at the Peshtigo Dam.
A few sturgeon have been spotted with a mix of common carp, buffalo and freshwater drum can be seen below the De Pere Dam. Water clarity is poor, so if you’re going to watch the sturgeon, bring your polarized sunglasses.
On the Peshtigo River at the Peshtigo Dam, sturgeon are still present and can be viewed from the platform, but spawning activity has temporarily halted. With warmer temperatures, spawning will likely begin again soon.
