MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man from Marinette County will spend more than a decade in federal prison for soliciting sexually explicit images of a minor.
David Johnson, 37, received the 12-year sentence Wednesday.
Officials said Johnson used a variety of online media platforms to engage in sexual conversations with minors living in Florida and Ohio. He asked them to share explicit images of themselves and also sent them pictures of his genitalia. Each minor contacted authorities in their respective states to report Johnson’s actions.
The FBI arranged for an undercover agent, who posed as a 14-year-old, to converse with Johnson online, and he “demanded that the child send him explicit images.” Days later, Johnson was arrested at his Marinette residence.
During sentencing, the judge “noted the extremely serious nature of the crime and commended the bravery of the victims who reported Johnson’s actions” and said he “found a strong need to protect the public from Johnson.”
After completing his 12-year prison sentence, Johnson will spend 15 years on supervised release. He is also required to register as a sex offender.
