GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A few new faces and plenty of familiar ones were celebrated by the Green Bay Police Department in a ceremony held Monday at Lambeau Field.
GBPD promoted nine positions in the ranks of detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and commander and swore in a new patrol officer and commander, both of whom are lateral transfers from other agencies in Wisconsin.
“Today, we’ve promoted people into every promoted rank in the Green Bay Police Department, from detective to commander. So, for us, that’s a pretty big day,” said Chief Chris Davis.
Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich and Police & Fire Commission President Rod Goldhahn both spoke at the ceremony, along with Davis.
“It’s part, I think, of an evolution that we’ve been undergoing for a while where you’re seeing a lot of people retiring from the profession and this is that next generation of leaders coming into the organization,” Davis said.
Every one of these people have shown us what we need to see to put them in that role of greater responsibility and trust in the organization. It’s a very important public service that we provide and now, more than ever, in the policing profession, leadership is just critically important to providing good service.
GBPD now has 178 sworn staff, including two recruit officers who will graduate this year from a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board-certified 720hour law enforcement academy program.
“I think it’s very good for the community, and I think it’s certainly good for the organization, to have the quality of people that we have in these very important roles,” Davis said.
