APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A teenage girl is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night while attempting to cross an Appleton intersection against the traffic signal.
The crash took place shortly after 8 p.m. at Badger Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue. The Appleton Police Department (APD) says an investigation revealed a 13-year-old female attempted to walk across the intersection from north to south against the traffic signal.
A vehicle traveling east on Wisconsin Avenue had a green traffic light and proceeded to drive through the intersection, hitting the girl while she was attempting to cross.
According to authorities, the girl remains hospitalized in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
“The Appleton Police Department would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this investigation. Our thoughts remain with the female that was struck, and her family, during this difficult time,” APD said in a statement.
