GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – No trial date was set Thursday in a federal lawsuit challenging the former use of surveillance equipment in the hallways at Green Bay City Hall, but pre-trial motions in the case will continue into early 2025.
Green Bay installed the security cameras with audio-recording capability sometime before December 2021. In August 2022, Janet Angus requested details of audio surveillance equipment, which the city provided.
A lawsuit was filed in February 2023, shortly before the mayoral election. A week later, the city’s Park Committee recommended the ending of the recordings. A judge entered a temporary order to halt it on March 2. Days later, the City Council prohibited audio surveillance at City Hall. The plaintiffs — the Wisconsin State Senate, State Sen. Andre Jacque, and former Green Bay Ald. Tony Theisen — sued the City of Green Bay and Mayor Eric Genrich. The state Senate was previously dismissed from the case.
During the 15-minute hearing Thursday, federal Judge William Griesbach and the attorneys set a variety of deadlines on pretrial motions. The two sides must tell each other who they will have for experts by Dec. 15. Discovery – the exchange of evidence – must be completed by Jan. 31, 2025. Final motions in the case are due Feb. 15, 2025.
