NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Authorities are investigating the source of a fraudulent ransom message regarding a Neenah High School student.
On Monday morning, an email message was sent to city of Neenah officials from an individual impersonating a Neenah High School student.
The message threatened harm against the school unless a ransom was paid.
Fox Crossing police immediately located the student and added extra patrols at the high school as precaution.
Based on the investigation, police determined that the student and family were victims of an organized scamming operation that likely originated outside of the local area.
