TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two Rivers police said Friday they have ended landfill searches in the case of missing three-year-old Elijah Vue.
According to the latest update, authorities have spent the last few days searching rural areas and the West Twin River, using resources including drones and K9 dogs.
Volunteers from local law enforcement, fire, state and federal agencies in addition to students from our local technical colleges conducted a large-scale search yesterday. Thank you to all the property owners for their cooperation. We’d also like to thank all those that donated food and beverages for the search efforts. We will continue to search areas with law enforcement personnel, drones and dogs as we continue to follow up on all tips and leads reported to the tip line.
Police are still requesting that homeowners and business owners review surveillance camera footage captured on Feb. 19 between 2 and 9 p.m. for any sign of a vehicle believed to be connected to the case. It is a 1997 four-door beige Nissan Altima with a Wisconsin license plate beginning with the letter ‘A’ and ending with the number zero (0). Video can be uploaded here.
Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur, made her initial appearance in Manitowoc County court Thursday where Judge Robert Dewane denied her request for bond reduction. Prosecutors filed an additional neglecting a child charge and a chronic neglect of a child charge against her.
Vue was staying with Baur’s boyfriend, Jesse Vang, at the time of his disappearance. Vang’s hearing Thursday was postponed as he did not have an attorney. He will be back in court next week, and his current cash bond of $20,000 will be reviewed then.
Two Rivers police expressed their gratitude to the community for all its support throughout the weeks-long search for Vue and invited people to take part in decorating their homes or businesses with blue or green lights or ribbons. Vue’s favorite color is blue and green is a symbol of hope for the recovery of all missing children.
The community support we have received has been amazing as we continue to look for Elijah. Recently a local group began decorating downtown light poles with blue and green ribbons in support of the efforts to find Elijah. We encourage all of you to do the same in addition to your tips and search efforts. We appreciate everyone’s concern, dedication, and assistance in trying to locate Elijah.
Vue was last seen by Vang at 8 a.m. on Feb. 20 in the 3900 block of Mishicot Road. On Feb. 12, Baur sent Vue to stay with Vang for “disciplinary reasons.” According to the criminal complaint, Vang said he was babysitting Vue at his Two Rivers home, but fell asleep. When he woke up around 11 a.m. on Feb. 20, he called police. An Amber Alert was subsequently issued.
Anyone who provides information leading to the discovery of Vue or the arrest and charging of the individual(s) responsible for his disappearance is eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.
Vue is described as having dark blonde hair and brown eyes. He is about three feet tall, weighs about 45 pounds and has a birth mark on his left knee.
