TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – First responders and community members from across Northeast Wisconsin continue to search for a young child missing from Two Rivers.
Elijah Vue, 3, was last seen by his adult caregiver at 8 a.m. Tuesday at his home in the 3900 block of Mishicot Road. He was reported missing to the Two Rivers Police Department (TRPD) and an Amber Alert was activated Tuesday afternoon.
TRPD Chief Ben Meinnert hosted a press briefing Wednesday evening at Two Rivers City Hall to provide an update on the search and share the latest information with the public.
“From the moment Elijah was reported missing, our law enforcement from local, state and federal agencies, along with dedicated volunteers and community members, have been working tirelessly around the clock to search every inch of our city and beyond into the county. Our search and rescue teams have been combing through our neighborhoods, parks, wooded areas, and they’ve been following up on all leads and tips from the public.”
Meinnert also asked the public to “refrain from spreading rumors and false information” as doing so can hinder search efforts for Vue. He emphasized that all official facts and information will come from TRPD.
Dozens of community members attended a prayer vigil Wednesday night at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Parish in Two Rivers. Tori Weaver, a mother of four boys, organized the event.
“I thought if we could at least all come together and spread the positive vibes out there and put some prayers out for him — like a public prayer train, I guess.”
Weaver said she was amazed by the turnout. “It’s a community that loves each other, I think, that comes together when times get hard. As you can see, there are quite a bit of people here to come out and show their love and hope that he gets brought home safe.”
Meanwhile, residents have been organizing search parties of their own in an effort to find Vue. One took place Wednesday morning near 39th Street and Martin Lane, the area where Vue was last seen.
Sue Hett, who lives nearby, told FOX 11 she felt like she had to help look for the child, who is possibly lost outside with no shoes and no jacket.
“The outpouring yesterday was unbelievable. They had the SWAT team set up in the cemetery and a lot of police, a lot of everybody, but the people, cars, constant looking down each little street, people going slow, people on foot, I’ve never seen such an outpouring, and then the helicopter came, was right over our house and I think they were going up and down the river but we just got to find some answers.”
Vue is described as having sandy brown hair and brown eyes. He is about three feet tall, weighs about 45 pounds and has a birth mark on his left knee.
He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a long-sleeved dark-colored shirt and red and green dinosaur slip-on shoes. Vue may be carrying a red and white plaid blanket seen in one of the photos released by police.
Authorities have asked neighbors to check outbuildings, vehicles or other concealed areas on their property. Those with doorbell cameras are also asked to check to see if Vue shows up on the video. However, police are requesting people not to use their own drones to search, as they could interfere with law enforcement drones.
Anyone with information regarding Vue’s whereabouts is asked to call (920) 686-7200.
