OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new addition to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office hopes to bring comfort to its Corrections Division.
The department recently welcomed K9 Gracie, a 7-month-old standard poodle, to the force.
K9 Gracie, who just completed six weeks of training at Central WI K9 in Schofield, will be assigned to the Corrections Division as a Facility Dog with her handler, Deputy Devin Wilson.
K9 Gracie will provide comfort to correctional officers, police officers, civilian and professional staff, victims, witnesses, and inmates to reduce anxiety and stress during times of crisis and give aid and comfort to individuals, groups, and communities impacted by violence, tragedy, or traumatic events.
She will also be a part of the Sheriff’s Office STAR Program which is a sobriety assisted treatment program for like-minded participants to receive support and resources to increase their chances for success. Deputy Wilson will utilize K9 Gracie to improve inmate rapport with counselors, reduce anxiety, and hopefully increase the chances for a successful treatment recovery.
