GILLETT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Gillett Elementary School is closed for the rest of the week after cockroaches were found inside the building.
Classes were canceled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week while a pest control company treats the building.
The district says all controlled pesticide applications use products approved by the EPA and scheduled routine visits will occur over the next nine weeks until the issue is resolved.
In a statement sent home to parents, in read in part:
We know that this sudden cancellation of school is unexpected and is a disruption to many family’s schedules. However, per our conversations with County Health and Human Services and the pest control company, keeping students healthy and safe means treating this aggressively and starting treatment as soon as possible.
Gillett’s Secondary School will remain in session, and bus routes will run as normally scheduled. All secondary before and after-school activities will continue as scheduled, with the exception of any practices or events scheduled in the Elementary School.
Little Tigers Wraparound Care will also remain in session. Thursday and Friday drop-off and pick-up will take place at the Secondary School Office.
