TWO RIVERS (WTAQ-WLUK) — The top leadership role at a popular environmental site along the Lakeshore has a new executive director.
Sue Crowley is running the Woodland Dunes Nature Center in Two Rivers.
“So far, it’s been a lot of fun. It’s been just a month, I guess. It feels a little bit longer. The days go pretty quickly. There’s a lot of great projects coming across the desk to manage,” said Sue Crowley, Woodland Dunes Nature Center Executive Director.
Crowley started January 1, taking over for Jim Knickelbine, who retired after nearly 20 years in the similar role.
“I’ve been the land manager here for about two years. So I got to know the place a little bit better. Really just good friends with Jim, and I just saw it as a great opportunity to transition into the executive director position,” said Crowley.
Crowley begins her new role as Woodland Dunes Nature Center celebrates 50 years of environmental education and conservation. Communications Coordinator Nancy Nabak says this year there will be 50 hikes throughout the 1500-acre site, and an open house in May.
“We’re going to be having refreshments, door prizes, and lots of displays that show what we were doing 50 years ago, with bird banding, and some of the programs back then, with some really historical photos, and bring them all the way to what we’re doing now, and have a little stroll through the decades with us,” said Nancy Nabak, Woodland Dunes Nature Center Communications Coordinator.
Crowley says there some challenges for Woodland Dunes.
“What our full capacity is. Perhaps, in the near future, we hope to maybe grow our programs a little bit more. And we’re always in need of growing our habitat work,” she said.
The next event is approaching.
The Candlelight Night Hike kicks off on Saturday, February 3 at 6 p.m.
Admission for members is $5/person; $15/family. For non-members, it’s $8/person; $20/family.
