FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Brian Sippel was convicted for a fatal drunk driving crash in Fond du Lac County that killed a man and injured his wife.
Sentencing is set for June 19.
Sippel struck another vehicle on I-41 on Jan. 14, 2023, killing a man and injuring his wife. He pleaded no contest Thursday to homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle, court records show.
A family member identified the man killed as Mike Hoffman, and his wife Julie as the person injured. A GoFundMe has been established to assist the family.
During an interview with police, Sippel claimed he left work around 6:30 p.m., though the crash occurred before that time. He said he had one Bloody Mary in St. Cloud between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. — again after the crash took place.
Sippel was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2004 and 2016.
